Leesburg bottling company to send water to Flint

LEESBURG, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Ally Stewart knows the water business.  She is president and owner of Azure Water, a water bottling company in Leesburg.  “Luckily, this is Florida,” she said.

The toxic water crisis happening now, in Flint, Michigan, hit a nerve within Stewart. She knew she had to help.  “We enjoy the water wonderland.”  Stewart explained, “Whenever we hear ‘water crisis,’ we always want to do something.”

Fox News reports Flint's tap water became contaminated with too much lead after the city switched its water supply in 2014, to save money while under state financial management.  Stewart said, “You can see that during the crisis, they can’t even take a shower. They have to use bottled water, put it in the microwave, and wipe themselves.”
 
That’s why her company is trying to send thousands of gallons of pure drinking water to the people of Flint. She said they’ve got thousands of gallons of water ready and waiting. The only thing is, they’re having trouble finding someone to ship it, she said Monday afternoon.  “I’m still looking either for a trucking company, or somebody to help cover the trucking shipping,” She explained.

She said it costs about $2,000 to send per truck load. There isn’t a firm cap on how much water they can send. Interest has trickled in from companies in faraway states, but no one in Florida yet.  “If we get the message out, maybe some trucking company in Florida maybe can help,” she said.  Help, for the people of Flint, Michigan  who are dealing with a toxic water crisis.
