Man accused of robbing Deltona hair salon

Authorities say that, just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, a man walked into a Deltona hair salon with a gun, demanding money.  Investigators said after Fredrick Staats left the Great Clips on Elkham Boulevard, then took off in a Kia Sorento.

Deputies said Staats not only scared people at the hair salon, but he put people’s lives at risk as he tried to escape, driving up to 100 miles an hour through Deltona.

Deputies spotted the car, then lost him.  A few minutes later, deputies received a 911 call from a resident who found the Kia Sorento in his yard.  "It’s parked in my back yard. I have no idea why it’s there or who," the caller said.

Another 911 call came in from another neighbor who said Staats was at his front door. The man said, "I have a gentlemen at my door, asking me to give him a ride for 20 bucks, and he’s asking to use my phone."

Deputies arrested Staats in the driveway of that home. No one was hurt.  A judge on Thursday set his bond at $106,000.
