Man wanted for allegedly beating 3-year-old girl and putting her in an oven turns self in

A Florida man, who had been wanted for injuring a 3-year-old girl and allegedly putting her inside a heated oven, was taken into custody Thursday night after turning himself in.

Terry May, 45, turned himself in at the Volusia County Sheriff's Office Branch Jail on Thursday evening, where was held on $50,000 bond on a child abuse charge. It was reported on Friday morning that he bonded out.

The Sheriff's Office says that the child suffered several injuries, including burn marks on her ear and ankles, and belt marks on her body.  A deputy said that he met with the victim and an investigator with the state Department of Children and Families on Thursday.

"When you look at the pictures and read the affidavit and see what this human piece of garbage did to a 3-year-old little girl -- he burned her, he beat her beat her with a belt, then he placed her in an oven," says Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

May is the ex-boyfriend of the little girl's mother.  Sheriff Chitwood says May was watching his ex girlfriend's toddler, and when the mom saw the little girl's injuries, she called deputies.

"She had been burned on her right ear, burns and lacerations on her feet, a three-inch scar down her back. It was quite obvious this little girl had been physically abused," Sheriff Chitwood says.
