Marion County Sheriff's Office warns of phone scam
MARION COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - If you receive a call from a deputy asking you to pay a fine over the phone, hang up immediately --- this is the newest phone scam in Marion County.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office says that they have received reports of citizens receiving phone calls from individuals posing as Marion County Chief Deputy Robert Douglas. The caller states that you need to pay a fine with him over the phone to avoid being arrested.
The sheriff's office says that this is a scam and that a Chief Deputy or any deputy would not call you to have you pay a fine over the phone. If you receive a phone call like this, do not give them any information and hang up immediately.
