Pet parrot learns how to use Alexa and other smart devices

ORLANDO, Fla. - You might have a hard time having a conversation with Alexa, but Petra the parrot isn’t. 

Petra, a 4-year-old Congo African grey parrot, knows over 300 words. She uses them to have Amazon’s Alexa do things like turn the lights on on and off, or ask about the weather. 

Petra’s owner showed Fox 35 Orlando what she can do.

“Alexa, turn lights off,” Petra says.

“OK,” Alexa replies, turning the lights off.

Petra is learning how to talk to her owner’s Google Home, too.

Petra also likes to talk to her owners, and she tells them exactly what she wants-- especially when it comes to rewards for her hard work.
