Robot pets added to nursing home in Bronx
NEW YORK, NY - Hasbro isn’t just for kids anymore. The toy company is finding a new market in seniors with their new Joy for All Companion Pets.
Seniors like Louann Wyckoff, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Nine months ago, Louann’s nursing home in The Bronx added robotic companion cats to their animal-assisted therapy program. They’re designed to bring comfort, companionship and fun to elder loved ones.
Asked how the cat makes her feel, Wycoff replied, “Like I have a baby.”
Mary Farkas, director of therapeutic activity, has seen the benefits first hand. “It’s a real form of engagement and that’s really special.”
For dog lovers, there’s the Companion Pet Golden Pup which, according to its website “has all the love in the world to give, but it won't chew up your slipper! “
It features realistic fur, built-in motion sensors, a heartbeat, and of course bark back technology.
Batteries and love included.
