Woman injured during drive-by shooting

One woman is clinging to life after being injured in a drive-by shooting.

Investigators said bullets started flying around 11 a.m. on Wednesday at a busy plaza at 5220 Old Winter Garden Road, which is home to a barber shop, a diner, a salon, and a small church.  Five cars were damaged by the bullets.  In one of those cars was the woman and a toddler.  "It was occupied by a lady and a 2-year-old child. That's the car that has five bullet holes in it. Only by the grace of God did they not get hurt," said Lt. Parks Duncan with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The identity of the woman was not immediately known, but authorities say she is 18 years of age.  She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center after being struck in the back by the gunfire.

"Where's the world coming to? What is it coming to?" asked Chris Spradley who works at the barber shop.  "I thank God that no one was hit besides the young lady, and I hope that she's alright, and we are praying for her."

Despite happening in broad daylight and at a busy plaza, authorities have few leads.  "It was sprayed from one side of the parking lot to the other, so we're not really sure if there were a specific target at this point in time," added Lt. Duncan.

Deputies said this is not the first time something like this has happened at this particular location.  Last year, in the same parking lot, two men were shot in a drive-by incident.  Anyone with information about Wednesday's drive-by shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
