Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood joins FOX 35 to talk about 25-year-old Shania Baptiste, who was arrested for allegedly scamming an elderly Daytona Beach Shores woman out of $32,500 by convincing her she had won a fake sweepstakes. Chitwood condemned Baptiste and her accomplices, stating they are part of a larger multi-state fraud ring targeting seniors.

Lake Mary to discuss fluoride use in drinking water

The Lake Mary City Commission will discuss whether or not to remove fluoride from the drinking water at a meeting tonight. Several local cities have opted to remove it, including Longwood earlier this week.

Florida man arrested after high-speed chase

Deputies say Taparee Shelton took off driving 100 miles per hour in a high-speed chase across Brevard County. Officials say the chase started when a deputy tried to stop Shelton for speeding, but he then sped up and started swerving in and out of traffic.

Firefighters extinguish early morning blaze

Four people are displaced after a fire in Orlando. Officials said the fire happened on Lake Underhill Road, not far from the Orlando Executive Airport. No one was injured, and the fire is now out.

Lake Underhill house fire

A family of four has been displaced following an Orlando house fire that broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning. Crews from the City of Orlando Fire Department said they responded to reports of a house fire around 3:45 a.m. Feb 20 on the 5200 block of Lake Underhill Road, near Andes Avenue in Orlando. Officials said no one was hurt in the fire, and the fire has been put out. It is currently unclear how the fire started or how much damage there is.

FOX 35 Care Force honors Florida 911 dispatcher

The Fox 35 Care Force team is honoring the Florida Sheriff's Association's 911 Dispatcher of the Year: Victoria King of the Lake County Sheriff's Office. King was working Aug. 2 when deputies were ambushed at a home. She took over the radio channel when a co-worker became overwhelmed. During the ambush, Master Deputy Bradley Link was shot and killed. King had to listen as one of the suspects started talking on Link's radio, but she stayed calm and continued to coordinate the response.

Ocoee one step closer to $1B retail, sports complex

The Ocoee City Commission has voted to approve the future land use and rezoning of a 150-acre parcel of land slated to become a $1 billion sports complex. The complex will include sports fields, restaurants, retail space and two hotels, and will be located off Ocoee-Apopka and Fullers Cross roads. Developers estimate it will create 5,000 jobs—3,000 direct and 2,000 indirect—and bring an annual economic impact of $1.2 billion. Construction is expected to be completed by 2027.

Man dies after falling off Orlando apartment balcony, police say

The Orlando Police Department says a man has died after falling off the balcony of an apartment building in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Police reported the incident took place around 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the downtown Orlando area. At this time, investigators said there has been no evidence of foul play.
