Volusia County Beach Patrol is looking for solutions to its extensive staffing shortage. Deputy Chief Tammy Malphurs with Volusia County Beach Patrol said if conditions were ideal, they would have roughly 300 active lifeguards. They currently have about 130 full-time and part-time people on patrol.

A Florida mother is recovering in the hospital after police said the father of her children stabbed her 13 times in front of their children. Tampa police identified the suspect as Michael Bresnahan and the victim as Crystal Bresnahan. They said after the stabbing Monday evening he led police on a chase and shootout. Authorities said it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
