Settlement reached in deadly fireworks warehouse explosion

The families of the four people who were killed when a fireworks warehouse exploded in Orange County have settled a lawsuit with the company. The fire happened in December 2022 at Magic in the Sky. One person survived the explosion. Investigators say the warehouse was not designed to house explosives. The terms of the settlement have not yet been released.

Artemis II mission to travel around the moon

As layoffs continue to sweep the space industry, Artemis II teams are determined to remain focused on their moon mission as they attempt to make up for missed deadlines with fewer workers. It’s taken years for NASA to get this far in the Artemis mission. The mission will send astronauts to and from lunar orbit for the first time in five decades. Several Artemis II team leaders said that ideally they would like to launch before April 2026.

Kissimmee mayor addresses search for police chief

Kissimmee Mayor Jackie Espinosa gave updates to the media on Thursday morning about the continued search for the city's next police chief. The search is down to two individuals — retired Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon and current Clermont Police Chief Charles "Chuck" Broadway. Kissimmee City Manager Mike Steigerwald said he will make the final decision on the new chief in the coming weeks. Robert Anzueto, from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, was named interim police chief in October, but will return to his previous department this month. Wilson Muñoz will serve as the acting police chief during the final transition period. The search for the new chief comes after the former police chief and the deputy chief resigned following an investigation into a 2023 use-of-force case, as well as allegations of "systemic issues" within the department.

Man accused of swallowing luxury earrings

Larry Lawton, a crime prevention specialist, joins FOX 35 to talk about Jaythan Gilder, who was recently arrested for allegedly stealing $769,500 worth of jewelry from Tiffany & Co. at the Mall at Millenia. Authorities say Gilder, who has a history of similar crimes, attempted to swallow the stolen earrings during his arrest and now faces charges of robbery with a mask and first-degree grand theft.
