Cuban migrant dies in ICE custody in Miami
Isidro Pérez, a Cuban migrant, died in ICE custody last week at the Krome North Service Processing Center in Miami. Claire Healy, Esserman Investigative Fellow at The Miami Herald joins FOX 35's Manny Martinez live via Zoom to break down her reporting into his death, and the 10 detainees who have died in ICE custody since the start of 2025, five of whom died in Florida detention centers. Pérez originally entered the U.S. in 1966 at age 16, worked as a mechanic and fisherman before serving an 18-month prison sentence for marijuana possession with intent to distribute in the 1980s. ICE arrested Pérez in June in Key Largo and diagnosed him with several health issues, including a heart issue. ICE records show Pérez was discharged from the hospital June 25 and died the next day after reporting chest pains.
