Good Samaritan shot, killed after intervening in attack, authorities say
A 56-year-old man was shot and killed after authorities say he stopped to help a woman who was being attacked following a traffic crash near an Apopka elementary school.
APOPKA, Fla. - A man has died after he was shot while attempting to intervene in a fight between two people in Apopka, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said the man – identified as Daryl Alexander Hill, 56 – was simply trying to help a person in distress when he was shot and killed.
The murder suspect has been arrested.

OCSO said deputies were called to Plymouth Sorrento and West Ponkan roads around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 11 after receiving 911 calls about a man and a woman physically fighting inside a vehicle – causing them to crash.
After the crash, two people inside got out of the vehicle and continued to physically fight with one another, deputies said.
A bystander tried to get in between the man and the woman and was shot, deputies said. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
FOX 35's Chris Lindsay reported an apparent bullet hole in the passenger window.
"Our hearts are breaking for Mr. Hill’s loved ones, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family," the sheriff's office said.

Suspect arrested, charged with second-degree murder
The man and woman in the fight stayed at the scene, officials said.
According to authorities, Raul Lionel Vazquez, 26, is facing a second-degree murder charge. Court records show Vazquez was out on bond from a 2025 case.
Prior arrests include battery by strangulation - domestic violence in March and aggravated assault with a firearm in November.
