Portable generators sold at Home Depot, Lowe's recalled for possible fuel leak posing injury risk

Thousands of portable generators have been recalled due to a potential fuel leak from the carburetor posing a risk of significant injury or death from fire or burn risks.

Consumer Product Safety Commission officials stated in a recall notice that Generac received 114 reports of generator fuel leaks, but there were no reports of injuries.

Approximately 149,400 Generac Portable Generators were recalled and the devices have an orange/black cover and are encased in a steel-tube cradle. The generator also comes with two wheels on the back.

Consumer Product Safety Commission officials noted that the devices were sold on Home Depot, Lowe’s and other home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and online between May 2025 and February 2026 in the price range of $600 and $1,300.

What you can do:

Consumers with these portable generators are urged to stop using them and should visit Generac’s recall page to see if their model and serial number are included in the recall.

If the generator is included in the recall and has either not yet been filled with fuel or had leakage after fueling, please call your local dealer to arrange for free repair at the dealer’s location.
