In addition to co-hosting the event, Volusia County Beach Safety will field its own team, joining fellow lifeguards in a series of water-based challenges, beach sprints and relay races ? all designed to mirror the real-life demands of professional lifesaving. A fire broke out at the construction site of the Flagler Beach Pier on Wednesday afternoon. The Flagler Fire Department confirmed it was caused by an electrical fire next to the pier. Crews from FPL responded and removed a damaged power line. A local radio station and a nearby lifeguard tower lost power, but FPL says service has since been fully restored.

Bryan Kohberger and the families of his victims had a chance Wednesday to speak in court but Kohberger remained silent.
