What we don't know:

Investigators did not immediately release the name of the person of interest.

What they're saying:

A quick fill-up at the gas pump turns into a deadly altercation in Marion County. Deputies say two men were arguing when one pulled out a gun.

"When you fire a weapon in public, you run the risk of hitting an innocent bystander that has nothing to do with your argument," said Valerie Strong with the Marion County Sheriff's Office. "The person that was involved, our person of interest, has been detained in Jacksonville."

Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff’s office are making the roughly 90-minute drive to Jacksonville to interview the man believed to be the alleged shooter. Right now, his name is not being released because he has not been charged in this deadly shooting.

"Major crimes is just doing their due diligence, investigating, interviewing, going through the evidence, to find out exactly what transpired here at this gas station that led this person to shoot and kill another human being."

Crime scene tape sealed off the gas pumps for more than four hours as investigators collected evidence and talked with witnesses who were able to help deputies track down the suspect.

"If you’re in a situation where you hear shots fired, you take cover. You run. You protect yourself. That is the number one thing. Your safety is our number-one concern, and that’s the main thing," Strong explained. "Now, if you found safety and then are able to come and talk to detectives then that’s great because you saw the suspect flee."
