Florida man allegedly threatened teens with gun on Intracoastal

A day on the water ended in a trip to the Volusia County Jail for a local man after police say he threatened a group of teenagers with a gun.

A 43-year-old Florida man was arrested and booked into jail, accused of pointing a gun at several kids and threatening to shoot them because they allegedly were creating waves near his boat, according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.

What we know:

The alleged incident happened on Oct. 4 on the Intracoastal Waterway in New Smyrna Beach.

According to the police report, the man, later identified as Christopher Evensen, "became irate" with the group of juveniles for allegedly creating a wake within the intracoastal waterway and near his boat. One of the kids told police officers that they were on their way to the South Causeway.

"When (juvenile victim) and his vessel were approaching the South Causeway, he alleges that the male subject ‘pointed a gun and waved it at us’ and that he would ‘shoot them and watch them bleed out.'" the report said.

Portions of the incident were captured on video and shared with New Smyrna Beach Police. "The subject was seen reaching into his right pocket, at which time a two-color item (silver and black) was seen in his right hand and partially in his pocket," the report stated. "While reviewing the video, the item's shape resembled that of a semi automatic handgun (unknown make)."

Those nearby were able to gather Evensen's boat registration and license plate when he was loading his boat onto a trailer, the report said. He was later located.

Evensen told the police officers that he did have an argument with "4-10 kids" and that he acted "stupid." He alleged the kids were creating a wake and cursing at him and his fiancé, who was on the boat with him. He denied pulling a gun and pointing it at the kids. He said what he pulled out was a glasses case and keys.

He told deputies that he does own a gun. He did not allow officers into the home to look for the gun.

Evensen's fiancé told officers that Evensen did not pull out a gun.
