Pedestrian killed in crash on US-27 in Lady Lake, police say

A pedestrian died early Tuesday after being hit by two vehicles on US-27, and police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that left the scene.

The crash happened early Tuesday in the area of southbound US-27 and Hartsock Sawmill Road.

According to police, a driver of a Toyota Tacoma saw a man who "appeared motionless" standing in the middle of the road. The driver told police she tried to avoid hitting him but was unable to. After hitting the man, the driver pulled over. A passenger went to check on the man while 911 was called, according to police.

Moments later, a second vehicle traveling southbound hit the man but didn't stop.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lady Lake police said the department is seeking information about the second vehicle involved in the crash.
