Pedestrian dies after hit by car near Orlando International Airport garage, police say

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Friday morning, police said. 

What we know:

A person was hit by a car early Friday, March 6, around 12:30 a.m., at Orlando International Airport, near the airport's Garage B, the Orlando Police Department said. 

The garage was closed temporarily while police investigated. 

The driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, police said. 

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, the department said.

Traffic delays

The crash caused traffic delays for people heading to the airport.

All northbound traffic on Jeff Fuqua Boulevard was also shut down, but the roadway has since reopened.

"We encourage passengers to allow extra time in their commute to the airport this morning," an airport spokesperson said in a statement.
