DUNNELLON, Fla. - A Levy County deputy shot a person after a traffic stop led to a pursuit into Marion County late Tuesday, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The deputy pulled over a vehicle whose registered owner had an active felony warrant out of Pinellas County, authorities said.
After initially stopping, the driver drove away when the deputy ordered him to get out of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy followed the driver into Marion County, where the driver stopped along Highway 40 and then ran into a nearby wooded area.
According to the sheriff's office, the driver pointed a gun at the deputy during the chase. The deputy then shot the driver.
The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting.

A stretch of U.S. Highway 40 in Dunnellon is closed following the deputy-involved shooting.
The closure affects the 23,200 block of West Highway 40.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the roadway reopens.
