Shots fired near University of Florida
Shots were fired Tuesday morning near the University of Florida (UF) campus in Gainesville, according to reports on the school's website. Authorities said no one has been injured during the incident so far, but the situation involves a barricaded suspect. West University Ave from 8th Street to 10th Street is currently shut down. The Human Resources building has been safely evacuated and will remain closed for the rest of the day. Officials said normal operations may resume on campus.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A man was shot and killed by deputies after an hours-long standoff on Tuesday near the University of Florida (UF) campus in Gainesville.
Authorities said no others were injured during the incident, and the campus has resumed normal operations.

What we know:
Officials shared a post on the school's alert page around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, saying shots were fired near 102 NW 9th Terrace, Gainesville, Florida.
The location is downtown and near the school's Human Resources building. It's about half a mile from the school's campus and near the Ansley Terrace Apartments and a Checkers restaurant.
According to UF's X page, the incident involved a barricaded suspect and was contained by police.
Officials with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) said the incident began when deputies were serving a felony narcotics warrant at the location. When they approached the small apartment, they heard voices inside.
Deputies said the person they were looking for was in a bedroom with his girlfriend. He let the woman out of the apartment and then allegedly fired one round towards officers.
SWAT teams were called in to assist with the situation, and officials began negotiations with the man. Gainesville Police and University of Florida Police also responded.
As the standoff continued, officials said the man fired additional shots. The man was then shot and killed by deputies.
Authorities said everyone else in the building made it out safely, and the area has been secured.

The HR building will remain closed for the rest of the day, but normal operations have resumed on campus.
