Rapper Tory Lanez is fighting for his life at the hospital after he was stabbed in prison.
KERN COUNTY, Calif. - Rapper Tory Lanez was hospitalized after being stabbed by another inmate in prison, California authorities said.
What we know:
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said on Monday, May 12, the rapper was attacked by another inmate at a housing unit around 7:20 a.m.
Prison staff immediately rendered aid and called 911. The rapper was then taken to a hospital in Bakersfield for treatment.
According to Lanez' Instagram, he was stabbed 14 times-- including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of the head, and one to his face.
His team said both of his lungs collapsed and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own, the post said.
"Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through," the statement read.

The motive of the attack remains under investigation by the Kern County District Attorney's Office and the California Correctional Institution.
Attacker identified
On Tuesday, CDCR officials identified the alleged attacker as Santino Casio, 42, who is serving life in prison with the possibility of parole on convictions for second-degree murder and attempted murder in Los Angeles County. He was convicted of killing his 13-year-old girlfriend in the Lancaster area in 2002.
While imprisoned, he was convicted and sentenced in 2008 to another six years for assault with a deadly weapon by a prisoner. In 2018, he was sentenced to two years for manufacture and possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner, according to CDCR.
Casio has been placed in restricted housing since attacking Lanez.
The backstory:
Peterson was found guilty of three felonies last December in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete. He was sentenced in Aug. 2023.

During the shooting trial, Megan Thee Stallion said she was shot in the foot after she and Peterson got into an argument after they both attended a house party hosted by Kylie Jenner in Hollywood Hills back in July 2020. Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez told her to "Dance, *****" before opening fire.
