Teen arrested in double killing of DeLand men after statewide manhunt
A 17-year-old suspect wanted in the fatal shootings of two young men in DeLand has been arrested after a statewide manhunt, authorities said.
DELAND, Fla. - U.S. Marshals have arrested a 17-year-old boy wanted in connection to the deaths of two teenagers who were found shot and abandoned in an industrial lot last week in downtown DeLand.
The United States Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Keyan Jayden Rundell at a hotel in Ellenton, a small community near Bradenton, officials said.
Rundell was arrested on two counts of second-degree murder related to the deaths of Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18.

The DeLand Police Department shares an update following the arrest of a 17-year-old in connection to the shooting deaths of two teenagers-- aged 18 & 19 -- in downtown DeLand.
DeLand Police Chief Jason D. Umberger, U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, and State Attorney R.J. Larizza shared updates on Rundell's arrest and the investigation.
New details
- Suspect Keyan Rundell was found and arrested on Wednesday morning at a hotel in Ellenton in Manatee County.
- He was arrested under suspicion of second-degree murder. Officials will start the extradition process back to Volusia County.
- Chief Umberger said additional arrests are possible for anyone who potentially helped the suspect plan or commit the shooting, destroy or conceal potential evidence, or helped him flee or hide from law enforcement.
- Chief Umberger said the three people knew each other somehow – and met Tuesday in that vacant lot. However, it's not known why.
- It's also not known why Rose and Campbell were shot, he said. A motive is still under investigation.
- Chief Umberger said Rundell has a "pretty good criminal history," including previous arrests for aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
Longtime childhood friends found dead in downtown DeLand
The backstory:
On July 29, Rose and Campbell – described as childhood friends – were found dead in an industrial lot in downtown DeLand. Officials said both had been shot multiple times.
Rose and Campbell were last spotted on surveillance video walking on a sidewalk on Tuesday, July 28, around 6 p.m. – the evening before they were found dead, authorities said.

Rose, who grew up in DeLeon Springs, was a student at The Citadel, the military College of South Carolina, and served in the National Guard. Rose's aunt, Jaimie Scarola, spoke with FOX 35 in an exclusive interview.

Citadel cadet among 2 young men found shot, killed in DeLand
A 19-year-old Citadel cadet and South Carolina Army National Guard member was among two young men found fatally shot in a vacant lot in downtown DeLand this week, leaving two families searching for answers as police continue their investigation.
"He was willing to go to the front line and fight for our freedom, including the freedom of the one who took him from us." Rose was home on break from The Citadel, where he was pursuing his dream of serving in the military, his family said.
Campbell lived in Deland, and had recently moved to Chicago, police said. It's not known what brought Campbell back to Florida that weekend.
