King was working Aug. 2 when deputies were ambushed at a home. She took over the radio channel when a co-worker became overwhelmed. During the ambush, Master Deputy Bradley Link was shot and killed. King had to listen as one of the suspects started talking on Link's radio, but she stayed calm and continued to coordinate the response.
