Daytona Beach city leaders weigh in on a proposed fee change for during the city's busy bike weeks. Leaders discussed how vendor permits are impacting local businesses, wanting to incentivize more year-round businesses to fill the empty lots. 

"Public roads are not designed for racing." Officials at the Daytona Beach Speedway on July 13 advocated for making the roads safer this summer by encouraging drivers to adhere to the speed limits. 

The humidity and high temperatures didn't stop fans from lining up for the grand reopening of Jackie Robinson Park in Daytona Beach. The event provided free giveaway fans and $5 tickets. This reopening comes after a $40 million renovation.

On May 6, city commissioners voted in favor of extending City Manager Deric Feacher's contract.  Feacher's current contract was set to expire this month.  Some commissioners argued that the spending issues began before he took over the position, while others argued it's his job to uncover when policies aren't being followed, FOX 35's Chancelor Winn reported. 

After problematic spending through the use of city-issued purchasing cards were identified in a Daytona Beach audit, officials met to discuss a criminal investigation. Now, prosecutors are requiring access to all emails, texts and communication of several city leaders. 

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood is warning social media promoters against a "Daytona Beach Takeover" event after flyers were posted on social media sites. The event is scheduled for this week, April 6 through 11. Chitwood is warning promoters now, this event should not take place.  “You can't promote events which shoot and loot is the underscoring theme to this,” Chitwood told FOX 35's Chancelor Winn. 

A Florida man, Bryan Parker, 58, is accused of aircraft piracy, in addition to seven other charges, after Volusia County deputies said he crashed into a fence at the Daytona Beach Airport and attempted to board a plane. 

Now a quiet Daytona Beach days after the new curfew went into effect, Volusia County Mike Chitwood claims social media promoters are to blame for the chaos a few weeks ago. Chitwood says 

Two hours after a weekend curfew started in Daytona Beach during Spring Break, it resembles nothing the chaos one week earlier. Last weekend, Daytona Beach was full of attendees of an unsanctioned "takeover," but now, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood instilled some stricter rules and an increased deputy presence. 

Though the weekend of March 21 is expected to be warm and sunny, beachgoers should be wary of strong rip currents along the Florida coast. If a red flag is flying, simply put, don't go in the water. 

After an unauthorized "takeover" of Daytona Beach -- leading to 133 arrests at Daytona and New Smyrna beaches last weekend -- the Volusia County Sheriff's office is conducting a curfew, including stricter penalties for breaking traffic rules. Beach-goers say the extra deputy presence hasn't gone unnoticed.
