Tropical Storm Bertha makes landfall in Louisiana enroute to Texas

HOUSTON - Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday as it spins toward another landfall in Texas later this week.

Bertha is bringing gusty winds, rough seas and periods of heavy rain to the New Orleans area of Louisiana on Wednesday. Landfall happened about 2 p.m. CT near the Biloxi Wildlife Management Area in St. Bernard Parish, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The forecast calls for Bertha to approach Texas on Thursday as a low-end tropical storm with gusty winds, rip currents, some surge at the coast and periods of heavy rain.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the Southeast Texas coast, from Sargent to the Louisiana state line. This includes places such as Galveston and Port Arthur.

Forecasters are already highlighting the possibility of heavy rain in Texas as Bertha moves inland. The highest rainfall amounts are expected to be between 2 and 4 inches.

Bertha is the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

Texas was also impacted by this season’s first named storm. Arthur brought heavy rain and gusty winds to the Texas Gulf Coast in mid-June.
