Florida officials report 7.7K new COVID-19 cases, 120 more deaths

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Florida Department of Health reported 7,788 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

That brings the state case total since the start of the coronavirus pandemic to 1,721,377.

They also reported 120 more deaths, bringing the death toll to 26,915.

As of Saturday, January 30th, Florida has vaccinated over 1,678,944 people. 1,364,416 of those have received their first dose only, while the remaining 314,528 have received both doses. The majority of those vaccinated are between 65 and 74 years old.

Mask required at Disney even with vaccine

Officials at Walt Disney World say even if you get the COVID-19 vaccine, you will still have to wear a face-covering at the parks.

Coronavirus can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, including when an individual coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land on objects and surfaces. Others can then contract the virus by touching these objects or surfaces, then their eyes, nose or mouth. 

As stated before, symptoms of the coronavirus include fever, cough and shortness of breath. They may show in as few as two days or as many as 14 days following exposure, the Florida Department of Health says. Most people recover from COVID-19 without special treatment, but the elderly and those with underlying medical problems are more likely to develop serious illness.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 and let them know if you have been infected or believe that you may be. If you are infected, a medical professional or another authority will likely advise that you remain isolated while sick. This includes staying at home and not going into public places or large events.

Commissioner gives vaccine appointment to woman, 93

An Ormond Beach commissioner gave up his spot in line to receive the coronavirus vaccine for a 93-year-old woman he never met.
