Woman runover by truck while relaxing at Florida beach, officials say

A 71-year-old woman was sitting in a beach chair when she was struck by a car pulling out of a parking lot Wednesday in Daytona Beach, deputies said.

Officials on Thursday morning said the woman is now in stable condition.

What we know:

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said the incident was reported around 2:43 p.m. near the Silver Beach Avenue beach ramp.

Reports show the woman was relaxing in her beach chair behind a car when a Chevrolet Colorado that was parked next to her pulled out of its parking spot. 

Officials said the driver made an immediate right turn toward the beach exit, but did not see the woman in her chair.

The Chevrolet's right, rear tire hit the woman, before then running over her head, reports show.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver of the Chevrolet as an 84-year-old woman from DeLeon Springs.

Sheriffs said the woman remained on scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. 

The woman said she was not aware she struck anyone until she was chased down by a witness, reports show. 

Deputies stated the woman had no signs of impairment.

Woman hit by car in stable condition

Officials said the woman hit by the car was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with head injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening, and she was in stable condition.

Deputies said the crash investigation currently is active and continuing.
