VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A 41-year-old man accused of pulling a woman from her car and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Volusia County will remain behind bars after a judge ordered him held without bond Friday.
Investigators say Scott Taylor was fleeing the Florida Highway Patrol when he stole a woman's car near Destination Daytona. Body camera video showed Taylor running toward the vehicle, forcing the woman out and driving away, according to authorities.
Chase reaches 137 mph
The backstory:
Authorities said Taylor then led officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 137 mph.
A truck driver caught up in the chase said the stolen car came off the interstate, crossed a median onto the wrong side of the road and clipped a dump truck before losing control.
The car then slammed into the front of his truck.
"The car basically came off the interstate, came across the median to the wrong side of the road, clipped the dump truck in front of me and lost control of the vehicle on the shoulder, came in sideways and hit the front of my truck," the driver said.
Driver describes attempted carjacking
The truck driver said Taylor got out after the crash and tried to enter his vehicle. The truck was locked, preventing Taylor from getting inside.
"When he could not enter my vehicle, he ran straight back," the driver said.
Body camera video showed officers chasing Taylor on foot and repeatedly ordering him to get on the ground before taking him into custody.
Wife apologizes to victims
The other side:
Taylor appeared before a judge Friday and was ordered held without bond.
His wife told FOX 35 after the hearing that the behavior was out of character and described Taylor as a "stand-up husband and father."
She also apologized to those caught up in the incident.
"I am so sorry that that happened to you. I thank the Lord that no one was hurt," she said. "It's so unfortunate and it's so sad."
Taylor remained in the Volusia County jail Friday.
