Hurricane Ian threatens Florida retirement community The Villages

One of the nation's largest retirement communities is bracing for Hurricane Ian's impact. The Villages, which s located about 45 miles northeast of Orlando, could see damaging wind and possibly a foot of rain. The last major storm to strike the region was Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Irving Locker’s backyard turtle preserve is what you would call his happy place. Just off his backyard in The Villages, at any moment you can spot a handful of the reptiles moving about the expansive field. It was December of 1944, nearly 77 years ago. Locker had just survived D-Day months before, landing on Utah Beach with his gun battalion. To this day, he can recall the chaos of the wounded on the beach.

State to reopen vaccine site in The Villages

Florida is expecting to get more than 300,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine this week. That's 40,000 more doses than usual. The state also announced that a drive-through vaccination site in The Villages that was closed last week will be reopening.
